The weather in Aquinnah has been ever changing: cold, warm, windy, cloudy, foggy and rain on Monday evening. Summer is here and many families are arriving for their summer sojourns. Congratulations and all the best to United States Coast Guard Master Chief Boatswain’s Mate Robert J. Riemer as he leaves USCG Station Menemsha at the end of the month. Chief Riemer will be honored at the official change of command ceremony on Thursday, June 28. He will be greatly missed across the Vineyard for his four years of leadership and involvement in the community while stationed here. Ms. Kara Riemer, R.N. and their daughters Emma (entering her junior year at Boston College) and Nora (ending seventh grade at the Oak Bluffs school) will be missed as well for their efforts and commitment to the Vineyard community that they called home for the past four years.
Welcome to Senior Chief Boatswain’s Mate Justin M. Longval who will take command of USCG Station Menemsha next week.
Louise Petersiel enjoyed a surprise visit from her daughter Erica on Monday evening. The visit included dinner with Jenna Petersiel at the Chilmark Tavern.
Congratulations to Jim and Nancy Benoit and their daughter Laina on being the recipients of one of the new homes being built on Smalley’s Knoll. They plan on a huge yard sale in August. The other family chosen for a new home included Taylor and Sarah Ives and their son Louie of Edgartown.

Jack and JoAnn Fruchtman are enjoying the week with their granddaughters, 10-year-old Sophia and six-year-old Elsa Primmer of Cambridge. Sophia has spent at least one week alone with her grandparents since she was a two-year-old toddler. They are enjoying the sites and sounds around Aquinnah and beyond.
George Katiulus and his wife Christine have arrived for the summer at their Aquinnah home. Colin Katilus is at USCG Small Boat Station Seattle and received his 100-ton captain’s license this spring. He is looking forward to visiting the Vineyard at the end of July. George Katilus VI made dean’s list at Tufts University both semesters of his sophomore year, while juggling an internship at Mass Challenge as a startup analyst. He will be lifeguarding in Chilmark again for the summer. And niece Lily Duetsch, back for another summer at Cliffhangers, made the dean’s list in her spring semester at Rowan University. They have all enjoyed successful fishing over the past few weeks.
John, Amy and Zach Macey have arrived for the summer at their Aquinnah home. Zach recently celebrated his bar mitzvah which was attended by Paul and Noah Manning.
Happy second anniversary wishes to Joshua and Emily Hughes on June 23. Happy 37th anniversary wishes to Barry and Dorothy Sullivan on June 27.
Happy birthday wishes this week to Karen MacPhail on June 23 and Tnisha Chandler on June 24 as she shares the day with Damon Q. Runyan, Lindsay Edwards-Gonsalves who is presently serving in the USCG in Bahrain, and to Sage Surner who celebrates the big five-oh. Robert Schiller will celebrate on June 25 as will Carly Simon. Edward Fantasia will party on June 26 as will Judy Lana Peterson. Kathie Carroll and Anna Cotton share the day on June 27. Beth Mayhew parties on the 28th. Marilyn Maynard will observe her special day on June 29.
