Heat and humidity have returned to Aquinnah. Reminder that on Thursday evenings from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. there is music at the cliffs with Ms. Ellen Biskis and her husband Tauras, Christopher Carroll, Don Groover, Chris Wike and others. The annual Portuguese feast will be held this weekend at the Holy Ghost Society in Oak Bluffs, opening on Friday evening at 5 p.m. A great time for the family to enjoy food, games and an auction. And don’t forget the parade from the Oak Bluffs steamship wharf to the Portugese American Club on Sunday morning at 11 a.m. to honor Queen Isabella.

Celebrate the fifth annual Aquinnah Public Safety Day with the Aquinnah Police and Fire Department and Tri-Town Ambulance. There will be food, giveaways and touch-a-truck for children. See you Saturday, July 21 from noon to 4 p.m. at Aquinnah Circle.

The 12th annual Native-American Artisans Festival will be held Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Aquinnah Circle. Meet some of New England’s finest Native-American artisans and purchase some genuine handmade art. You will find wampum jewelry, finger weaving, traditional deer skin items and many other traditional or contemporary arts from New England and New York tribes. You can also try your hand at drilling a wampum pendant or at making a mini-sailor valentine. Traditional music and food throughout the day.

The Martha’s Vineyard Author Series continues on Sunday, July 22 when Pulitzer-prize winning journalist Seymour Hersh discusses his memoir, Reporter. Hersh’s fearless reporting has made him the investigative journalist of a generation. The town of Aquinnah is once again offering sailing lessons with Charles Shipway as well as swimming lessons at the home of Mrs. Hannah Malkin under the direction of Michael Wooley. Please see Carolyn Feltz at the town hall to sign up for the lessons.

Don and Judy Baker have arrived from North Carolina for a two-week visit with his cousin Mrs. Hannah Malkin.

Dr. Joseph Harrington and his wife Evelyn are staying in Menemsha while here to visit her son Jason Widdiss and grandson Carl Widdiss.

Charlie Hopkins and his family have returned home after spending a week in Aquinnah. His mom, Ms. Stella Winifred Ryan Hopkins, joined her family for a few days and returned early to Cambridge.

Judge James Hubert and his wife Jody have been at their Aquinnah home for most of July and will be here as often as possible depending upon their schedules.

Douglas Vanderhoop, his wife Linda and their family have arrived from Utah for their annual sojourn.

Across the channel at United States Coast Guard Station Menemsha – a rousing welcome to Senior Chief Justin Longval. Justin has many friends in the area and one day they will stop by the station to welcome him to the Vineyard. Welcome to BM3 Montgomery Buffington who arrived recently, originally from south Charleston. S.C. All the best to MK3 Tyler Jeffcoat and his bride Taylor as they head to the Boston area after only six months on the Vineyard. Tyler will now be reporting to duty aboard a USCG cutter based in Boston. Welcome to the family of SN David Galan who droved across country from California to spend the week with David.
