Hey golden retriever lovers, there’s a lovely girl here in need of a new forever home. Her name is Bella and she’s only five. She’s a larger golden with a darker, reddish coat and a very gentle nature. She also seems to get along with cats and knows her basic obedience. Bella would make a great family dog; come met her and see if she’s the perfect fit for your family.

Our newest resident is a year-old black cat named Mr. Man. Mr. Man is a real lover-boy who came in as a stray from West Tisbury, whereabouts unknown. If you think he may be your cat please contact the shelter. Otherwise, he has just been neutered, will be vetted out and is ready to find a new home. Could that home be with you?

Our other feline residents include Lucy, a shy, five-year-old long-hair calico with a cute white blaze, and an orange puff at the end of her tail. Once this cat warms to you she is a real doll and a snuggle puss. Come meet her and give her a chance. The real lover-girl is 10-year-old Chloe. She’s a mostly black tuxedo who just wants to be with you. She’d be a great addition to any home. Mr. Kitty has black and white marking resembling a Holstein cow. He may be eight but he loves to play and is also a very affectionate cat that gives little love nips. Come meet the crew and see if one of them is right for you.

The little feral black kitten, now named Celia 2, is thriving. She’s super-affectionate, purrs as soon as you pick her up – a real sweetie. Celia 2 has joined the litter of four feral kittens and their mom who came to the shelter right after Celia 2 joined us. Momma Misty is a grey and white tabby who is a nice cat, under three years old. Her litter consists of two male and two females, a tuxedo, a black and white, a tabby and white and a gray tabby. All these kittens will be medium or longhair cats. The kitten list is long so call to have you name added if you are looking for a kitten.

Wilma’s kittens will all be leaving us and once Wilma is spayed she too will leave for her new home. Congratulations to whoever gets these babies, they are just gorgeous and very friendly. We expect them to become excellent family cats.

Holly, the five year-old tabby, is content in the kitty condo. She has a unique personality and she can be somewhat standoffish. Holly likes to set the rules and be in charge – she needs a very understanding owner who will let her be herself. There is an affectionate cat in there once in the right loving, safe environment. Is there an angel out there for Holly, someone who can find it in their heart to give this girl a good home?

A reminder that the next nail clinic at the shelter will be held on July 21 from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. Suggested donation is $15.

Now that summer is here the shelter would like to remind all pet owners how quickly temperatures rise in a closed vehicle. Please do not leave your pets in what can rapidly become a deadly situation. Additionally, please be mindful of how hot the asphalt and pavement can be on delicate paws in the Summer heat. Dogs should be not walked on hot pavement between the hours of 9 a.m. and 5 p.m.

We still need adult volunteers to answer the phone and meet and greet people on Thursday, Friday and Saturday afternoons. Can you help? If interested, give us a call or stop by for more information. And if anyone needs any crates or dog food, please stop in to pick some up. We have an abundance of both and are happy to share.

Shelter hours are Tuesdays and Wednesdays, 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Thursdays and Fridays, 8:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. and Saturdays, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The shelter is closed Sunday and Monday. The telephone number is 508-627-8662. Contributions are always gratefully accepted; the shelter is funded solely by donations. Please make checks out to Animal Shelter of Martha’s Vineyard; the mailing address is P.O. Box 1829, Edgartown, MA 02539 or visit animalshelterofmv.org.
