The shelter had a good week with four adoptions taking place. Golden retriever Bella has gone to her new forever home, guinea pig sisters, Charlotte and Emily, have moved on to their new home and Wilma’s tuxedo kitten has found his permanent home as well.

Hurry, hurry, hurry: KITTENS are available! We have eight beauties ready for adoption. The picks of the bunch are the black kittens. Wilma’s three long haired, black beauties are as stunning and sweet as their momma. There are two females and one male who are playful and affectionate. They will be wonderful family pets. The other black beauty is Celia 2, who has a white star on her chest and just purrs and purrs. She’s another very friendly and affectionate kitten. And Misty’s kittens are now ready to leave as well, all four are available for adoption. They will be long or medium haired, with two being tabby and white (a male and a female), one tuxedo female and one black and white male. All four are beautiful, playful kittens.

We also have a number of older cats in need of new homes. Mr. Man is a year-old black cat that came in as a stray from West Tisbury, whereabouts unknown. If you think he may be your cat please contact the shelter. He’s so friendly he’s been described as being more like a dog than a cat. Also in the cat room are Lucy, a shy, five year old long-hair calico with a cute white blaze and an orange puff at the end of her tail. Once this cat warms to you she is a real doll and a snuggle puss. Come meet her and give her a chance. The real lover girl is 10-year old Chloe. She’s a mostly black tuxedo who just wants to be with you. And she has the cutest white toes. She’d be a great addition to any home. Mr. Kitty has black and white marking resembling a Holstein cow. He may be eight but he’s very playful, and is also a very affectionate cat that gives little love nips. Come meet the crew and see if one of them is right for you.

Holly, the five year-old tabby, is content in the kitty condo. She has a unique personality and she can be somewhat standoffish. Holly likes things her way, she wants to set the rules and be in charge. She needs a very understanding owner who will let her be herself. There is an affectionate cat in there once in the right loving, safe environment. Is there an angel out there for Holly, someone who can find it in their heart to give this girl a good home?

Our newest resident is a very friendly, lionshead rabbit. Pickle is four years young, brown and black, with floppy ears and a lion’s mane of fur. And his face looks a little like a Pekinese dog. He’s a real sweetie that enjoys being held and getting attention. Hey rabbit lovers, come and get this gem. And guinea pigs Maple and Luck are also looking for homes. These boys are hand-raised and very sweet. Guinea pigs are wonderful pets for children and they adore attention. Come in and meet the lobby crew, you just might fall in love.

We had a very successful nail clinic this past Saturday. The next nail clinic will be held on August 11 from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. The suggested donation is $15. Now that summer is here, the shelter would like to remind all pet owners how quickly temperatures rise in a closed vehicle. Please do not leave your pets in what can rapidly become a deadly situation. Additionally, please be mindful of how hot the asphalt and pavement can be on delicate paws in the summer heat. Dogs should not be walked on hot pavement between the hours of 9 a.m. and 5 p.m.

We still need adult volunteers to answer the phone and meet and greet people on Thursday, Friday and Saturday afternoons. Can you help? If interested, give us a call or stop by for more information. And if anyone needs any crates or dog food, please stop in to pick some up. We have an abundance of both. Shelter hours are Tuesdays and Wednesdays, 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Thursdays and Fridays, 8:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. and Saturdays, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The shelter is closed Sunday and Monday. The telephone number is 508-627-8662.
