Well, the fair is but a memory as most all of the carnival units return to the mainland Wednesday and signs of fall are beginning to appear each day. You must have felt the dramatic reduction in traffic on Monday as it’s beginning to thin out a lot each day. Steamship Authority boats are packed going to the mainland.

There were several end-of-the-season parties last weekend and many more are planned over the holiday weekend. We are about to begin our fall routine as the sun is now setting at just about 7:30 p.m. Your mailbox will soon have catalogs that feature Halloween supplies.

Robert and Henry Hambardozian and their mom, Nicole, came over on Saturday to go to the fair. The boys stayed for two more days for additional fair time and a chance to be with Uncle Sam and the grandparents.

Mary Ruth Flores, of San Antonio, Texas, came up to be with her sister, Katherine Long, for the fair and assisted her in the fiber tent.

Joan Siffert, of New York city, departed on Thursday after visiting her brother, John, and his wife. She reported having a fabulous time.

David McCullough and his wife, Rosalee, are staying at their Music street estate for the remainder of the month. In addition to enjoying the fair, David is just about finished with a new book.

Sig Van Rann, of Music street, reports that for the fifth straight year his wife Susan Dickler hosted the MS Foundation annual summer benefit at the Grange Hall. More than 100 folks showed up to network and mingle and hear an address by MS CEO Theresa Younger. His son, Jackson, has returned home after nine months abroad in Israel last week. The family had a welcome-home barbeque party attended by his various cousins, aunts and uncles.

Brian Athearn, president of the Agricultural Society, wants to thank everyone who attended the fair, the staff and exhibitors. He reports that it was a great fair with record attendance levels.

Olivia Larsen, over at the library, reports that on Monday at 5 p.m., the public is invited to the annual Friends of the West Tisbury Library Meeting. The meeting will be a followed by a potluck on the Children’s Room Porch, so please bring a dish to share. On Wednesday at 4:30 p.m., Dana Klepper-Smith will lead a program called Chronic Illness and the Embodied Self: Discussion and Practice. The discussion will explore the role embodiment plays in chronic illness with a focus on Lyme disease.

A bit of cocktail party trivia: Monday marks the 112th anniversary of the first telephone connection between the Vineyard and Nantucket, Amelia Earhart became the first woman to fly nonstop across the country 85 years ago Thursday.
