Our adoption trend continues with two more kitties adopted this past week. Lovely, long haired calico Lucy stole someone’s heart and has moved on to her forever home. Stray kitten Albert (Albie) was taken home by the woman who found him. Good news all around. And Kathy’s kittens will go to their new homes shortly.

Who wants guinea pigs or a rabbit? We’re having a sale: buy one get one free! We have one male lionhead rabbit, Pickle, who is a wonderful rabbit. He’s very calm and friendly. He loves to be held and pet and is a snuggle bunny. As for guinea pigs, we have two brothers, Maple and Lucky. These boys are hand-raised calicos that love spending time with people. If you pet them they will serenade you with delight. Our newest guinea pig is Onyx. He’s black with a long coat, hence his name. He is also hand-raised and very sweet. Make a child/children, or yourself happy with one or two of these wonderful pets.

We still have a number of nice adult cats pining for someone to love them. Mr. Kitty is black and white with markings resembling a Holstein cow. He may be eight but he’s still very playful and super affectionate. Could he be your boy? Cheshire is a young female tuxedo with a super personality and her markings make her seem as if she’s smiling. Cheshire would make a wonderful family pet. Simba is a big, somewhat shy, orange and white boy with a white blaze. He’s coming out of his shell and getting friendlier and friendlier. He’s only five and is an indoor cat. Once in an established home, he’s sure to become a love muffin. And we have one adorable male bobtail tabby from Kathy’s litter still available for adoption.

We have two special-needs cats looking for special angels to give them forever homes. Hazel is an elderly, diabetic tabby who seeks out attention and is very sweet. Our other special-needs girl is Holly. Holly came to us from a bad situation and is not always trusting of people. She needs a special owner who will allow Holly to set the rules and give her the time to learn to trust. Is anyone out there?

Come join us on Sept. 28 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the PA Club when the shelter will be hosting the Celebration of 1,000 Loves, Lives and Tails. This is a free event to celebrate the fact that over 1,000 animals have been adopted through this shelter! The bluegrass band, Maggie’s Kitchen, will provide the music, and there will be hot dogs and hamburgers as well. We hope you can join us!

A reminder that the next nail clinic will be held this Saturday, Sept. 8 from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. The suggested donation is $15. And we are taking jewelry donations throughout the year for our summer garden party.

With hot and humid weather still here, the shelter would like to remind all pet owners how quickly temperatures rise in a closed vehicle. Please do not

leave your pets in what can rapidly become a deadly situation. Additionally, please be mindful of how hot the asphalt and pavement can be on delicate paws in the excessive heat. Dogs should be not walked on hot pavement between the hours of 9 a.m. and 5 p.m.

We still need adult volunteers to answer the phone and meet and greet people on Thursday, Friday and Saturday afternoons. Can you help? If interested, give us a call or stop by for more information. And if anyone needs any crates or dog food, please stop in to pick some up. We have an abundance of both and are happy to share.

Shelter hours are Tuesdays and Wednesdays, 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Thursdays and Fridays, 8:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. and Saturdays, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The shelter is closed Sunday and Monday.
