Well, the sunset, regrettably, is now occurring before 5:45 p.m. and is dropping faster each day. When daylight savings time ends in 15 days, the season of early darkness will have us in her grasp. It seems hard to believe the weather last week was warm and humid. Tom Hodgson, the Music street meteorologist, reports that we received 4.45 inches of rain last Friday night. On Saturday, Jen Wool reported a half inch so we received 5 inches of rain from the remnants of Michael as it passed by.

Anna Alley, of State Road, went up to East Taunton to help out and visit everyone. She returned home Sunday night.

Lynn Christoffers, of Edgartown Road, returned home last week after a business trip and photo shoot down in New York city.

The Martha’s Vineyard Agricultural Society will hold their annual meeting on Wednesday, Nov. 15 to elect officers and trustees for the coming year and adopt several bylaw changes.

Linda Alley, aka the jelly queen, reports that the fall farmers’ market will be held Saturday from 10 a.m. till 1 p.m. at the Agricultural Hall on Panhandle Road.

Emily Gadd returned to her home in Bozeman, Mont. last week after spending the summer months at her house. Emily reports that the weather was superb and her garden produced a copious amount of vegetables. She enjoyed her visit and her friends and looks forward to returning to the great Northwest.

Jill Carlton and her husband, Pete Karman, of New Haven, Conn. are expected to arrive this weekend to close up her State Road home for the winter. They both want to spend more time on the Vineyard next year

Peggy Stone, of the parks and recreation committee, reports that their annual Halloween party will be held at 6 p.m. on the 31st at the Agricultural Hall. She is looking for ghouls to help out in the cemetery Halloween night! Anyone high school age or over can call 508-696-0147 for more information.

The library will host their annual Halloween party at 3:30 p.m. on the 31st. They will offer hayrides, treats and ask you to come in costume.

Jessica Rogers of Martha’s Vineyard Community Services reports that they will be holding their annual Fall Electronics Disposal Day on Saturday from 9 a.m. till 2 p.m. at their campus across from the high school.

When you are in or near the woods these days remember that the archery season for deer is into its second week. The manager of the Manuel Correllus State Forest would like to remind people to wear bright colored clothing to be on the safe side. Be extra careful when driving, as deer are apt to cross the road day or night at one of their favorite crossings.

Olivia Larsen, over at the library, reports that tomorrow at 2 p.m., all are invited to a fish painting workshop with Julie Prazich and Sara Rosenthal. Basic materials will be provided. Feel free to bring any personal adornments or your favorite, washable paints you might want to include. This class is free and open to adults and children ages nine and up. On Sunday at 2 p.m., come to the library to Brainstorm and Troubleshoot Your Halloween Costume with Hugh Phear! Make a costume for yourself or help a friend make a costume. Bring your ideas and materials.
