Connect to End Violence, which provides crisis intervention, advocacy and support for Islanders dealing with domestic and sexual violence, has been named the beneficiary of the Vineyard Gazette’s annual holiday subscription promotion.

From now until Jan. 31, the Gazette will donate $15 of every new and renewal subscription it receives to Connect to End Violence, a program of Martha’s Vineyard Community Services. People who become Friends of the Vineyard Gazette will also be supporting Connect with $15 of their contribution.

The subscription promotion coincides with a series of articles beginning in today’s Gazette that shed light on the often-unseen issue of domestic violence on Martha’s Vineyard. Each year, scores of women and men on the Island quietly seek the services of Connect, which maintains a staffed 24-hour crisis hotline to deal with emergencies and answer pressing questions related to rape and other forms of domestic and sexual violence. Services include counseling and medical accompaniment.

Since 2015, the Gazette has donated more than $35,000 to select Island nonprofit organizations during the holiday season. Previous beneficiaries include Martha’s Vineyard Shellfish Group, Island Grown Schools and Camp Jabberwocky.
