With Christmas around the corner, Animal Shelter residents are busy making their holiday lists and hoping that their wishes come true. Brothers, Larry and Magic, both wish to have a home for the holidays and really hope for one where they can stay together but they would also accept being separated if necessary. They are two-year-old males — Magic is a good size tuxedo with perfect markings and big green eyes and Larry is a big buff boy with pale green eyes. These boys are very playful and super affectionate to boot.

Oh Guinea Pig lovers, where are you? Guinea Pigs, Maple and Onyx, are hoping to find families that will take them caroling since they both love to sing. Or even a home with a family that likes to gather round and sing. Maple is a big calico boy with a lovely singing voice, and Onyx is an Abyssinian with a shiny, long black coat. These are the two friendliest Guinea Pigs in the world, out of all the piggies that have been here these guys are about the nicest ever. They’ve been hand-raised, love to interact with people and actually come to the side of the cage for attention and snacks. Even if you’re not in a position to take one home you can still stop in and visit, they need affection as much as any creature.

We have a special needs cat looking for that special holiday angel to fulfill her life. Holly is a six-year-old tabby that came to us from an unfortunate situation and is not always trusting of people. Her wish is for that special owner who will allow her the time and space to set the boundaries and learn to trust. During her time with us she has begun to come around and will continue to once she feels confident in a forever home.

Everyone is invited to come march with the Shelter and the Black Dog in the Edgartown Christmas Parade on Dec. 8. We will be meeting in the parking lot of the Edgartown School at 10:30 a.m. Remember to dress warmly, it’s expected to be a cold one. And speaking of the Black Dog, from Friday, Dec. 7 through Sunday, Dec. 9, Christmas in Edgartown weekend, visit the Edgartown store, make a $10 donation to the Animal Shelter of Martha’s Vineyard and receive a classic Black Dog tee shirt. Help out the Shelter and get a free T-shirt, it’s a win-win. Additionally, Past and Presents will have a holiday gift booth on both Friday and Saturday to benefit the Shelter. Time to go shopping!

The next nail clinic will be held on Dec. 15 and takes place at the Shelter from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. The suggested donation is $15. And we are taking jewelry donations throughout the year for our Summer Garden Party.

We’d also like to remind everyone that hunting season is here and continues through the end of the year. Remember to wear bright colors when walking in the woods, and keep your dogs leashed. And please stay out of wooded areas around dawn and dusk. And with the cold weather upon us be mindful of the temperature if you plan on leaving your dog in a car for any length of time.

We still need adult volunteers to answer the phone and meet and greet people on Thursday, Friday and Saturday afternoons. If interested give us a call or stop by for more information. And if anyone needs any crates or dog food, please stop in to pick some up. We have an abundance of both and are happy to share.
