Well, the automobile traffic in town was nearly non-existent most of the day as families gathered around their tree to exchange gifts and enjoy a family dinner. Relatives and friends came by to visit in the late afternoon. The church was well attended at the two services held on Christmas Eve. All government buildings, including the library, will be closed on Monday to observe the New Year.

Jane Konicki, of Webster, reports that her husband Ed removed their tree and all of the decorations in and outside of their home and packed them in boxes before dark on Christmas Day. They were the first couple to put up a tree the day before Thanksgiving and it stands to reason they should be the first to take it down. On the other hand, Judy Hall out in Oklahoma City reports that she will wait until Jan. 6 to have her husband Malcolm remove the decorations and tree.

Marjorie Pierce reports that the missions committee of the Congregational Church will hold the first of this season’s church community suppers at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The committee will

be hosting this initial dinner and hopes you will come to share this heartwarming meal and social get together. As always, food contributions are greatly appreciated and can be brought with you to the dinner or left in the church kitchen earlier in the day. They very much hope to see you there enjoying the growing fellowship. The Wednesday night suppers will continue until the end of March.

Next week, I will begin my 19th year of bringing you as much social news as I can find in the town each week and I hope you have enjoyed reading it as much as I have compiled it for you.

Diane Nolan, Jack Ryan, Tara Dolan and John Hirt over at the post office wish all of their patrons and friends a happy New Year.

Olivia Larsen, over at the library, reports that tomorrow from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m., all are invited to the monthly Lego Club. This month, build a Lego car and race it on a track. On Monday, the library will be closing early. On New Year’s Day, the library will be closed.

Happy birthday to Sunday Smith, Gary Blodgett, Katherine DeVane and Zachary Stedman Friday; Simon Hickman, Irene Price and Phyllis McMorrow Saturday; John Gorman, Donald Sibley, John Patterson, Mariah MacGregor, Max Skjoldebrand and Linda Cohen on Sunday; Jenifer Strachan, Alan Hartmann, Cynthia Cornwell and Elizabeth Rothwell on Monday; Martha Sullivan, Dan Small, Nathan LeBlanc and Dan Gaskill on Wednesday; Chris Jones, Julia Mitchell and Elizabeth Cecil on Thursday. Happy anniversary to Mike and Hermine Hull on Tuesday.

Well, that is all of the social news for this week’s edition, the last one of this year. It is time once again to make New Year’s resolutions. If you have any news of holiday guests, please call or e-mail me. Friday night, around midnight, many people will be listening and singing along to the famous recording of Guy Lombardo and the Royal Canadians playing Auld Lang Syne to ring in the New Year. In the meantime, I want to take this opportunity to wish each and every one of you a very happy and healthy new year!
