Libby Ellis is a design and marketing consultant by day. In her off hours she is a paragraphist. Her latest work of paragraphs is called Loss & Found, a short book that floats like a dream through past and present, wonder and sorrow.

“When the pieces were knocking on the door I decided to listen and take them seriously,” Ms. Ellis said about the creative process. “But then I saw they were mostly about loss and thought yikes.”

Many of the pieces began as fuller essays and over time she pared them down to their essence.

“That was the challenge,” Ms. Ellis said. “It’s quiet. There’s a lot of solitude to it.”

The book is designed this way, with negative space and “room to breathe visually.”

It is also intentional, from the precise language and images to the typeset, and to the feeling of gratitude it invokes.

Loss & Found can be purchased at Bunch of Grapes Bookstore, Edgartown Books, Morrice Florist and Cronig’s.
