A three-day music festival to be held next August in Vineyard Haven moved another step closer to reality this week when the Tisbury selectmen approved an entertainment license for the event.

At a meeting Tuesday, selectmen took more public comment for and against the proposed event, to be held at Veterans’ Memorial Park on August 9-11.

Selectman Melinda Loberg said the license is contingent upon the town signing a contract with the promoter, Adam Epstein, CEO of Innovation Arts and Entertainment. Negotations are under way on a contract, but no deadline has been set for its completion, she said.

“I think of this as an engagement,” Ms. Loberg said of the license. “We still need to do the pre-nup.”

Selectman Tristan Israel abstained from the vote, saying he wanted more details about logistics, including whether liquor would be served.

Mr. Epstein, who has produced a summer concert series on the Vineyard for the past three years, has said he will compensate the town and law enforcement for the event.
