What a difference! No football. All eyes are now on the Bruins and the Celtics as Boston sports continue to entertain. I watched two Celtics games that had me on the edge of my seat but ended in disappointment. But then we won a game I did not watch. My friend, Billy Maciel, had the good fortune to get to the Bruins game in Boston last weekend. He witnessed good game and a great win. Boston strong.
I ran into Kathy Poehler downtown and was able to give her a hug for her Mom, Joan Glodis. Kathy and her sisters, Kim and Abby, are planning a memorial service for Joan at the end of May here on-Island. It will be a tribute to the woman and her artistry. Potential plans are an exhibit of Joan’s beautiful quilts at Featherstone. I shall keep you posted.
Fine artist Jack Ryan is exhibiting at the MVTV studio now through early March. Whenever I see his incredible sketches of iconic New York buildings I am tempted to move back. Catch his show during regular business hours.
There is nothing like seeing former students rise in their talents. Lauraye White has an exhibit of her work at Mocha Mott’s. I highly recommend stopping in and enjoying her creations.
I remember Antone Dias as a Tisbury school third grader. He has gone on in his field. Antone now owns and operates Eclipse at 62 Lagoon Pond road. There is an extensive schedule of wellness courses, yoga, just about anything your body needs this time of year. I stopped in and saw a yoga class in progress. Get the schedule and I’ll see you there.
The Island Food Pantry is very overextended in these tough times. Remember Food for Fines this month and next at our library. Clear your library bills and donate to our Islanders. Many other businesses have donation boxes as well. I missed the Joni Mitchell tribute movie at our film society last week. I see it is on the schedule for Sunday, Feb. 17 at 7:30 p.m. Which of us didn’t get through our coming of age without Joni providing the soundtrack? Yep. I’ll be there.
Our condolences go to the family and friends of Jacob Lewis. I did not know him personally but have heard wonderful things from his very sad friends. It is a difficult time of year. Reach out.
Condolences to Nicola Blake on the passing of her beloved Mica. The two kept good company for many years. The memories stay forever.
The birthday bandwagon pulled along three great townies on Feb. 12: Kristen M. Jenkinson, Sandy Pratt and J. Mateo. They all take the cake. Many happy returns.
