The Edgartown police department, in coordination with the Massachusetts environmental police, will sponsor a free Massachusetts Boating Basics Course this spring.

The course is NASBLA approved and offered to the public at no charge. The primary purpose is to foster safe boat operation through increased awareness of required safety equipment, safe boating practices and legal responsibilities.

Youth aged 12 through 15 who successfully complete the course will be issued a safety certificate allowing them to operate a motor boat without adult supervision, as required by state law. The course will also satisfy state requirements for personal watercraft users who are 16 or 17 years of age. All graduates will be issued a safety certificate. Taking the class as a family is encouraged. All students must be at least 12 years old to participate.

Classes will meet on April 22, 25, 29, and May 2 at the Edgartown police department. Attendance at all classes is mandatory.

Registration is required. To register please visit, www.bit.ly/ebsc2019, course ID: 4337.
