Wind is the word of the week. Now the cold is setting in and there is a chance of snow. I think we have had it easy so far, so maybe we can handle whatever snow we get. Spring is around the corner.

Happy birthday to all who celebrated this past week. Big balloons go out to Quinn Filiault who celebrated Feb. 23, Matheus Lage and Otavio Xavier, Feb. 24, Ethan Fournier, Feb. 25, Laura Gomes Feb. 27, and to Sarah Lively who celebrated her day Feb. 28.

It is staying lighter longer and on March 10 we will be springing forward and gaining an hour more of light at the end of the day. I think that has the biggest effect on people. Also I have notice the daffodils are starting to show their little heads above the ground. Each little thing makes you smile a little bit longer. The weather last week was a little warmer. I even went out and raked a little and pulled some dead wood out of the hedges. It looks bare but nice and hopefully it will grow in fully.

School vacation is on and my road is rather quiet with no school buses and kids going up and down the road. But on the up side I have been watching some of these kids and parents and teachers on their vacations, some in Florida, some in Disney, there are those in Vermont and New Hampshire, some are even in California. There are some that are even still here on the Vineyard just enjoying not going to school and no homework. Whatever you are doing I hope you are enjoying some down time.

On Tuesday, March 5, at 5:30 p.m., celebrate Mardi Gras at the Federated Church parish house. All are invited to a family time and free supper: gumbo, dirty rice, pralines and King Cake. For more information, call 508-627-4421, or email officefederatedchurchmv@gmail.com.

And free lasagna luncheons continue every Sunday through March 31 from 12:30 to 2 p.m. at the church parish house.

Hospitality Homes will continue as a host site through March 31 for those who need overnight shelter, regardless of the reason. Check in Monday and Thursday evenings at 7 p.m. at the parish house, and leave at 7 a.m. the next morning. Dinner and breakfast are provided.

Have a great week and keep the home candles burning
