We have had more snow in the first few days of March than all of January and February combined. The winter has been mostly mild a dream compared to last year. The sun now will be setting around 6:30 p.m. Spring arrives in 12 days, not soon enough for many of us.

Town clerk Tara Whiting-Wells reminds anyone needing an absentee ballot for the April 11 election that you need to submit or request a form. It can be done two ways through her or the state website. The last day to register to vote is March 20; she will be open until 8 p.m. that day.

Sig Van Raan of New York city and Music Street arrived on Monday to spend a week at his home.

Phyllis Meras hosted a dinner party celebrating Tom Thatcher’s 92nd birthday at her house last Thursday night. It was a swell party — many of Tom’s friends came by, a lot of adult beverages were served along with delicious home-cooked food.

Anna Alley has spotted two robins and finches flying about her back yard and bird feeders; so has Susan Block.

The annual meeting of the First Congregational Church will be held tomorrow at 11 a.m.

Marjorie Pierce reports that the Wednesday night suppers at the church parish hall have been a huge success. They conclude for the season on the last Wednesday of April.

Sally Lodge reminds us that it’s Daffodil Time, the MV Cancer Support Group’s annual spring fundraiser. Bunches of daffodils will be available for purchase at $10 each on March 15 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the hospital lobby; and on March 16 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Cronig’s Market in Vineyard Haven, Reliable Market, in Oak Bluffs and Stop & Shop in Edgartown. Plan to dine out on Thursday, March 21, when the Ocean View will donate 10 per cent of all dinner proceeds to the cancer support group to benefit.

Olivia Larsen over at the library reports on Sunday at 3:30 p.m, the library will host a Second Sunday Jazz concert featuring the Jeremy Berlin Trio. On Monday at 5 p.m. Plastic Free MV is holding a public forum to answer questions about the plastic bottle ban, and at 7 p.m. the library will host its monthly Writers Read evening. Sign up to read in advance by calling 508-693-4307. On Tuesday at 12:30 p.m. public health nurse Lila Fischer will give a mindfulness and wellness talk and offer a free blood pressure clinic.
