April showers will certainly bring May flowers and we have had an abundance of rain again this week mostly overnight. Lawns are greening and catching up with Forrest Alley’s lawn which appears to stay green even during the winter months. Temperatures are nearing the 60s on most days.

Easter sunrise service is at 6 a.m. at Community Baptist Church with Rev. Leo Christian leading the worship service.

Station Menemsha sweatshirts and T-shirts will be available for sale. There will be tours of the station as well as the boathouse. The USCG Station Menemsha Spouses Association would like to thank the Vineyard for their overwhelming support during the unnecessary shutdown that the crew experienced over the winter.

Sincere condolences to the family and friends of Angela K. Waldron who died on April 13 at the Martha’s Vineyard Hospital. Angie was a classmate at the regional high school, class of 1964. She worked with us at Manning’s Restaurant during the summers while in high school, bringing together her West Tisbury friends and neighbors to enjoy dining in Gay Head. There were many joyous times with the Fischers, Mayhews, Maleys, Whitings, and many other families. We then worked together at the Wampanoag tribe. She enjoyed being in our midst in Aquinnah where she worked at the Aquinnah Library and as the animal control officer. Angie is survived by her daughter Wenonah Madison and her husband Daniel Sauer and her grandchildren Waylon, Amos, Jleah, and Zuzu. She is also survived by her sister Joan Jenkinson and her husband Pat and their children Holly Bario and Patrick Jenkinson and their families. Graveside services will be held in West Tisbury.

Congratulations to Jordan Baptiste who was appointed port captain for the Steamship Authority on Tuesday. Jordan is the son of Lester Baptiste and Elizabeth (Russo), and grandson of Theresa Baptiste of Vineyard Haven. He had served at USCG Station Menemsha while on active duty prior to his transfer to Woods Hole.

Francis Brown has been spending the winter in Exuma in the Caribbean. While there, he has been directing residents on the island in their daily duties of recycling. We look forward to his return to Aquinnah soon.
