The Aquinnah Shop will open for the season in time for Mother’s Day. It is anticipated that May 9 will be the opening day.

Capt. Buddy Vanderhoop has a new Tomahawk III, a 35 foot Carolina Classic that he and Captain Hollis Smith brought up from South Carolina. It is now docked at his spot in Menemsha awaiting a summer of fishing charters.

Across the channel at USCG Station Menemsha, all the best to SN Daniel Gonzalez-Respeto who has served at Menemsha for the past two years. He will head to A School in Petaluma, Calif. for health science training to further his nursing career. Daniel, his wife Marguerita, and their children Abdiel and Allayani will be greatly missed.

All the best to SN Colby Storm as he also heads to A School in Petaluma, Calif. for training in health services.

Congratulations to Gary Kovack who has been hired as a full-time officer in Edgartown, after previously serving at Station Menemsha during his 10-year career. Gary and his wife Jessica (Cummens) and their daughter Lucca Dahlia Kovack returned to the Vineyard following his discharge from the United States Coast Guard. Jessica is the daughter of Chuck and Donna Cummens. Her grandparents Esther (Rabbitt) and the late Chet Cummens, were previous owners of the Homeport Restaurant.

Sincerest condolences to the family and friends of Lisa White Morway who passed away at home in Edgartown. A multi-generational family friend, she will be missed by all. Her services were held on Saturday in West Tisbury.

Sad to hear of the passing of John Havlicek, former Celtics basketball star. For nearly two decades he and Dr. Murray Feingold were at the forefront of fundraising for the Genesis Foundation to assist children with birth defects at Boston Floating Hospital and at the Franciscan Hospital. A group of us from the hospital would arrive at Farm Neck Golf Club early in the morning of the Genesis tournament and sit near the 11th hole to cheer the teams on. Those were great times.
