Phyllis Vecchia brings history to life, literally. Each year she visits Island middle school and sets the students loose to embody the people and eras being studied. Costumes lead the way as plays are created and acted out.

This year Ms. Vecchia focused on women in history through the lives of Eleanor Roosevelt, Hillary Clinton, Mary Chipman, a whaling wife from Falmouth, Phillis Wheatley, the first African American poet, and the women who suffered under the Salem witch trials.

Ms. Vecchia is also leading third grade students at the West Tisbury School through re-enactments of the lives of Abigail Adams and Elizabeth Blackwell.
