The Vineyard pauses today to celebrate the national holiday with a parade, a picnic and flag ceremony in Vineyard Haven.

On a sunny, breezy day, volunteers began putting up flags at the Avenue of the Flags ceremony at Oak Grove Cemetery at 7 a.m. Flags will stay up until 3 p.m.

The Memorial Day Parade begins at 10 a.m. at the American Legion Hall in Vineyard Haven.

The route ends at the Oak Grove Cemetery.

The annual Tisbury town picnic begins at noon at the Tisbury Waterworks. All are invited. Bring your own food, with music by the Flying Elbows, and rowboats, grills and ice cream provided by the town from noon to 4 p.m. No dogs, please.
