The season is off to a great start. How wonderful to see the three Glodis daughters, their husbands and children, at the reception in honor of their mom, Joan Glodis, last weekend. Daughter Kathy Poelher lives here. I hope Abby and Kim can visit more often.

I had previously seen some of Joan’s quilts and crafts but not the full display that charmed us all. It was great to see so many friends, retired teachers, and all followers of the Glodis family. My colleague Kay Mayhew and I grabbed a table and had a long chat about Tisbury. Kay is the Tisbury columnist for the Martha’s Vineyard Times. Hugs to everyone.

Memorial Day was beautiful. All parades and celebrations went well, but if you think that was the start of swim season think again. Today I am bundled in a jacket and winter socks.

We had a small get-together here yesterday, with food prepared and provided by Bobbie Jo Sears and Tamma Cimeno. They also kept my turkey flock at bay so the humans could eat in peace. I enjoyed meeting guest Chris Hulbert for the first time. He was invited by Ross Swiriduk, who promised Chris would be interesting. No disappointment there. Chris is on-Island for the season with his dear companion, Chiclet, who is a licensed therapy dog. Tamma and Bobbie Jo took turns walking her. While Chiclet is here she visits Windemere, the Center for Living, and the VFW. Chris Hulbert is also involved in finding housing for homeless veterans. Welcome to the season, Chris and Chiclet.

I caught up with Bill and Jan Stokes. Both look great. They were headed to their cousin’s barbecue in Oak Bluffs.

Jim Hart is back from his Royal Palm Beach winter home in Florida. I have not seen him yet but hear he is in great shape and doing well.

Speaking of Florida, great news from the other Nancy Gardella, my sister in law in Fort Myers, and my nephew Jonathan, who just graduated from the Hibernian School. I have the photos of the diploma and the picture of him in a stunning green cap and gown to prove it. So far, Jonathan has been awarded a college scholarship from his church and is waiting to hear from other applications. I send heart and hugs to Nancy and Jonathan for the incredibly hard work and perseverance I have witnessed throughout his academic life. Jonathan is a person on the spectrum. His future is bright.

How about those Bruins? An exciting ending to our holiday. Boston sports are the best.

And a shout-out to Harriet Bechtold, PTA for rehab and wellness at the hospital. This genius has me walking and standing better already. Thank you, Harriet.

Our next Neighborhood Convention will be Tuesday, June 4th at 11 a.m. at the Chilmark Community Church, with a program put on by the Yard. All are invited, but remember to bring a sack lunch.

Very sad news reached me this morning. Our condolences to the family, friends and devoted readers of Tony Horwitz. Tony and his wife and two sons have been deeply committed to their West Tisbury community and all Islanders. This is all the news I have at this time. Hugs to his wife, Geraldine Brooks, and the boys.

Get well wishes go out to Mikey Waters.

The birthday bandwagon pulled along Lizzie Jacobs on May 27th. Doreen Kinsman celebrated on May 28th. My favorite chef, Tamma Cimeno, celebrates on Friday. And next week, Louisa Leuning takes the cake. Many happy returns.
