There were a few more days of gloomy skies in Aquinnah this week, mixed with fog and a day or two of sun and temperature in the 70s. The irises are still standing at attention in all their glory, and Cliffhangers will open this weekend for the season.
The Aquinnah Artisans Fair will have its first summer opening on July 13 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Aquinnah town hall. To apply for table space, email Gabriella Camilleri at aquinnahartisans@gmail.com or call 508-693-5969.
Many members of the Herrick family will gather in Aquinnah over the weekend to remember Jeannette Herrick who passed away in September 2018. Relatives and friends will arrive from California, Washington, D.C., Brooklyn, N.Y., Providence, R.I. and various parts of Massachusetts to walk the Dogfish Bar beach and remember mother, grandmother, aunt and friend. The Herrick family spent summers at their home on Dogfish Bar from 1963 to 2004. A large crowd will gather at the home of Lisa Herrick and Drey Samuelson on Sandcastle Lane for supper and a celebration of Jeannette.
Meanwhile, Sarah Herrick Morris and her wife Megan Morris of Providence, R.I. are expecting their first child in July. Nicholas Herrick Morris and his fiancée Isabelle Kirkham-Lewitt of Brooklyn, N.Y. are due to marry at the Chilmark Community Center in October. Everyone will be spending a lot of time on the Island between now and then.
John and Amy Macey and their son Zach arrived over the weekend for the season at their Aquinnah home. Zach will work at Cliffhangers with his friend Noah Manning.
Fifteen-year-old Fynn Monahan, son of Michael Monahan of Tisbury and Anya of Aquinnah, will attend the Harvard Summer School for seven weeks. His brother Yossi will travel to England with Michael for two weeks to visit family. Certainly different than their summer of 2018 travel to Thailand. Welcome to Steven and Emily Moskowitz and their children Leah, David, Ben and Luke of Newton as new homeowners in Aquinnah. Emily is the daughter of Stuart Katz and Jane Martin of Chilmark and Manhattan. Welcome to USCG Chief Steve White, his wife Ariel and their children Silas and Phoenix who arrived this past week from their previous assignment at USCG Station in Honolulu, Hawaii.
USCG MK1 Nathan Dlabaj and his family have been reunited after three months since his transfer to Station Menemsha. His wife Janay and their children Jessie, Christian, and Charlie finally arrived from their previous USCG Station in Honolulu, Hawaii. Of note, Chief White and MK1 Dlabaj worked together in Honolulu.
Happy 55th aniversary wishes to Emmett and Kathie Carroll as they celebrated on June 17.
Happy birthday wishes to Jemima James on June 21; Fawn Fantasia and Matthew Stackpole will party on June 22; Tnisha Chandler parties on the 24, sharing the day with Damon Runyon who is celebrating a milestone; Robert Schiller and Carly Simon share the day on June 25; June 26 is a day of celebration for Lucinda Childs, Barbara Chipman, Edward Fantasia, and Judy Lana Peterson; Anna Cotton will celebrate a milestone on June 27, sharing the day with Kathie Carroll; and Beth Mayhew observes her special day on June 28.
