Hospital Announces New Leadership John Schaefer has been named as the new chairman of the Martha’s Vineyard Hospital board of trustees, the hospital said in an announcement this week.

Mr. Schaefer will take over for Sandy Ray, the longtime hospital board member who has served as chairman for the past year.

The change took place at a trustees meeting on July 26.

A retired investment banker, Mr. Schaefer has been a seasonal resident of the Vineyard since 1978, and lives in Edgartown with his wife Pam. He has been a member of the hospital board since 2011. He is also a member of the board of the Sheriff’s Meadow Foundation.

Also at the meeting, Dr. Pieter Pil was named as a hospital trustee. Dr. Pil is the chief medical officer at the hospital and lives in Vineyard Haven with his wife, emergency room physician Dr. Karen Casper, along with their four children.
