The weekend weather was just delightful. The beaches were pleasantly full on Sunday, many cookouts were held over the weekend. The school baseball field and tennis courts town were busy. Activity will pick up even more in this town in advance of the fair, as we have near the peak of the summer season as some college students are about to return to school or get ready for it by next weekend. Hundreds of cars full of people attended the farmers market and library book sale last Saturday.

Margo Datz will hold her annual art show and reception at the Grange Hall tomorrow from 4 to 8 p.m. The thyme this year is Enchantments new fantasy paintings and limited edition prints.

The Zeisels have had a busy July in their home in Quansoo. They have enjoyed taking advantage of the hot weather through kayaking, gardening and beach-going. They had an enjoyable visit from Jaclyn Pogue of Richmond, Va. She is a filmmaker on new and effective ways to treat dementia symptoms. One of her films features a lengthy interview with John. They were joined by son Evan from New York, a writer, producer and film-maker himself, whose feature film The Eve (filmed on Martha’s Vineyard!) is viewable on Amazon and whose subsequent short How You Are To Me has received numerous awards at international film festivals. John spent his birthday showing other visitors the Island, and his wife Jacqueline is connecting to literary agents for her recently completed novel. Now they are off to visit their third grandchild, Katherine Claire, in Toronto.

Olivia Larsen, over at the library, reports on a few of next week’s activities: Today from 12 to 1 p.m., IGI serves its free Community Lunch. Tomorrow from 3:30 to 5 p.m., the library will host an opening reception featuring the work of photographer Anna-Maria Stomberg. On Tuesday at 5 p.m. will be the first annual “Dionis Coffin Riggs Day of Poetry.” Come listen to the poems of Dionis Riggs read by Cleaveland House poets. On Wednesday at 4:30 p.m., David Rhoderick will perform a piano concert titled Bach to Brahms to Brubeck.
