The Chappy Book Club will meet Wednesday August 28 at 10:30 a.m. at the CCC to discuss The Girl in the Spider’s Web. This novel is the fourth in the Lisbeth Salander series, which was begun by Swedish author Steig Larrson and continued by David Lagercrantz after Larsson’s death. According to Wikipedia, in the only interview he ever did about the series, Larsson stated that he based the character of Lisbeth Salander on what he imagined Pippi Longstocking might have been like as an adult. Apparently, he figured that she would be a magnet for trouble. The series includes The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, The Girl Who Played with Fire and the Girl Who Kicked the Hornet’s Nest. You still have plenty of time to get a copy and get it read before the book club meets.
If you have house guests who seem to need a break, send them over to Mytoi Garden Thursdays from 9 a.m. to noon. Trustees arborist and gardener Marc Fournier has lots of ambitious projects in mind and is always in need of volunteers. No need to call ahead. Just show up.
Then on Friday from 11 to noon, the whole gang can view the results of their handy work during the Mytoi Meander led by Marc.
Last week, 250 bobwhite quail were delivered to Chappy by Wareham Quail Farm. They are very efficient tick eaters. Check out their Facebook page for videos of the releases. You will recognize some of your neighbors. Eventually, with continuing releases, there will be enough quail on Chappy to re-establish a self-sustaining population here. You can schedule a delivery by calling 508-295-5528 or by sending a message via Facebook. Be sure to mention that you are on Chappy.
The board of the Chappaquiddick Community Center will hold its annual meeting on Saturday August 10, from 9 to 10:30 a.m. The center has had a very busy summer of activities. Programs such as sailing and tennis will be ending soon, but yoga, Tai Chi and mahjong will continue.
The final lobster roll dinner is scheduled for Wednesday, August 14 from 5 to 6 p.m. Order your lobster roll by 1 p.m. the day before by calling the CCC at 508-627-8222. The final farmers market/craft fair will be on the CCC porch on Wednesday, August 21 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m.
While lots of folks will be dealing with parking, mosquitos and squishy lawn problems at the concert in Vineyard Haven, you can relax in the cool comfort of the great room at the CCC to listen to bluegrass guitarist Jordan Tice perform on Saturday, August 11 from 7:30 to 9 p.m.
