We are still enjoying lots of sunshine and warm days in Aquinnah with temperatures in the 70s. Cranberry Day will be observed on Oct. 8. Due to cultural and religious observances, the Aquinnah special town meeting of Oct. 8 will be rescheduled for Oct. 22. The Aquinnah Artisans Fair will move from Oct. 12 to the first weekend in December. Ladyfest will be held on Oct. 19 from 5 to 10:30 p.m. for the third annual musical extravaganza as musicians gather at three spots on Circuit avenue and perform throughout the night. Ladyfest benefits Connect to End Violence with proceeds assisting those in need through community services. The evening is sponsored by Larkin and Jacqueline Stallings, owners of the Ritz, and was co-founded by Rose Guerin and Kelly Feirtag.

Chicken Alley Thrift Shop held a successful estate sale at West Chop over the weekend, selling the contents of two homes that will bolster the thrift shop sales goal for this month. Proceeds from Chicken Alley also benefits community services. Thank you to Chicken Alley director Jessica Tartell for creating such a successful event.

Congratulations and all the best to Louis Belain and Holli Ayers who were married in Falmouth on Sept. 21. It was a pleasant surprise to see John Lana and his wife Ann in Edgartown the other day with his niece Debbie Viglas and her co-worker James Joyce. John and his family were longtime summer residents of Lobsterville. They were all looking forward to a 30th birthday celebration of Debbie’s son Stavros Viglas, hosted by Skip Tomassian.

Sincerest condolences to the family and friends of Betty Joslow who passed away in Dover, N.H. on Sept. 26. Betty and her Boston terrier Molly had moved to Dover a few years ago to be closer to her daughter Wendy, leaving a big void in Aquinnah. She was a former director of library circulation at Pine Manor College for 30 years, a librarian at the Aquinnah Wampanoag tribal library as well as the Aquinnah and Chilmark libraries. She served the town of Aquinnah as a constable, as a member of the library board of trustees for nearly 20 years, and as chair of the Parks and Recreation Committee overseeing the holiday parties for the town as well as managing the summer sailing and swimming programs.

Betty was also a member of the League of Women Voters of Martha’s Vineyard, and a neighbor and friend of Hannah Malkin and thus one of the ladies who gathered around the pool on most summer days. Betty was the widow of Marvin Joslow and is survived by her daughters Wendy, Nancy and Laurie and their families including many grandchildren and great grandchildren. Services will be private.
