Kyle Carey performs at the Katharine Cornell Theatre on Wednesday, Oct. 9 at 7 p.m.

Ms. Carey grew up in New Hampshire but after college turned toward the study of Gaelic music. She lived in Cape Breton on a Fulbright Fellowship diving deeply into the traditional music of the area and then, while living on the Isle of Skye in Scotland, became fluent in Gaelic.

She now performs music in a genre dubbed Gaelic Americana. Her most recent album, The Art of Forgetting, made the top 20 best folk albums list by PopMatters.

The show on Wednesday is free, thanks to the Vineyard Haven Library.
