The weekend weather was delightful. A smattering of pumpkins, mums and Halloween displays are beginning to appear around town. There were some beach plums and grapes this year but most of them have been picked and preserved. Kids and parents have started planning their Halloween costumes. A special thank you to Charlie Kernick, assistant postmaster, for covering the office while I attended to some personal matters.

Anna and I went up to North Attleboro to visit the grandchildren last weekend. We stayed with their parents. Her brother Curtis and his wife Jerri from Oklahoma City had come east to his daughter’s wedding. Nicole and Arsen hosted them for a luncheon on Sunday on their deck overlooking Bungay Lake. After lunch we all went for a ride around the lake in their boat. After a generous amount of shopping we came home on Monday.

Saturday, Oct. 5 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Vineyard Gardens will hold their harvest festival at the nursery on State Road. There will be fall displays and craft activities for young and old, including pony rides.

Also on Saturday at the library, there will be a reception from 3:30 to 5 p.m. for an exhibit by photographer Wayne Smith. The show is called A Quick Dip into The Archives and will be on display through the month of October. And on Thursday at 4:30 p.m., avid amateur astronomer Mark Alan Lovewell and professional consulting astrologer Arlan Wise will give a talk about astronomy,and astrology.
