Time to remind you to change the clocks as Daylight Saving Time comes to an end. Whatever you do, don’t be early for church services or Sunday brunch. I would say here comes the winter of our discontent, but as a Patriots fan, I feel very contented. Winning never gets boring.

I was sorry to miss the long-planned surprise party for Lori Robinson Fisher at the P.A. Club last Saturday evening. We had a conflict. We had a not-so surprise party for my friend, Bobbie Jo Sears, here at my house. Bobbie’s actual birth date was Sunday but the friends gathered Saturday night. Appetizers, supper and a cannoli cake were beautifully made by the excellent staff at Edgartown Stop & Shop. Dana Hodsdon drove me to pick up the food and the cake as my truck still has the tree through its window, a product of two gales ago. A great time was had by all. And, although Mikey Waters was not at our party, he has a very vivid description of the festivities. Just ask him. Same time, next year.

Our Vineyard Haven Public Library is offering a viewing of Rocketman on Tuesday, Nov. 5 at 7 p.m. I shall be front and center to watch the tale of Elton John and Bernie Taupin’s fabulous work unfold. Revisiting the music that shaped a generation, I’ll see you there.

Come to the library early to view my friend, Annette Sandrock’s, black and white photos in Art in the Stacks. Annette dedicates this show to saving the Amazon rainforest. Some were used in her recently published book of poetry, Labyrinth.

Speaking of poetry, the first poetry cafe of the off-season will be held at the Martha’s Vineyard Playhouse on Wednesday, Nov. 6 at 7 p.m. Readers will include our poet laureate, Jill Jupen. Steve Ewing, Chris Legge, Annette Sandrock. The event is also changing its name to Poetry & Pie. We have the Pie Chicks to thank for that. Ten dollars cash at the door gets you in for pie, a beverage, and all the words you can soak up. I’ll see you there.

I used to babysit for Sabrina Leuning. We had great fun. Unfortunately, Sabrina suffered a major medical event last Saturday. She is in the hospital in Boston recovering from surgery. As we do, the Island is coming together to support her. Keep a lookout for a GoFundMe page. Benjamin DeForest announces a special event at the Cardboard Box on Saturday, Nov. 9 to help out. There will be musicians, food, friends and a silent auction. Please attend and help Sabrina and her daughter, Ella. Time for us to honor this amazing talent who has sung her heart out for us over the years.

Our condolences to Mark and Melinda DeFeo on the passing of their canine companion, Mr. Bojangles. All dogs go to heaven. He is waiting for you there.

Our condolences also go out to the Bannister family on the death of Ethel Virginia (Craig) Bannister. She made such an impression on us all.

Sympathy goes to the family of Emily R. Jardin Scott. Emily died on Oct. 26. May she rest in peace.

The birthday bandwagon is trying to catch up. Angelo DiMeglio’s beloved Betty turned 13 on Oct. 23; Nancy Canha Merriman shared my little Silvio’s birthday on Oct. 24, as did my high school friend, Kathy Nelson. And on Oct. 25, Dolly Campbell took the cake. Many happy returns.
