Jenny Slate is the mind and the voice of Marcel the Shell. She starred in Parks and Recreation, was a cast member on Saturday Night Live, and gave voice in the movie Secret Life of Pets to the Pomeranian Gidget.

And last spring she was the commencement speaker at the Cuttyhunk middle school graduation. So what to do for an encore? Give a reading at the West Tisbury Library, of course.

Ms. Slate will read from her new book of essays Little Weirds on Sunday, Dec. 1 at 3:30 p.m.

The essays in Little Weirds are personal and humorous. And if given a nudge, perhaps she will bring Marcel the Shell to life.

Joining her onstage will be her fiancée Ben Shattuck, reading an excerpt from one of his short stories. Mr. Shattuck is the director of the Cuttyhunk Island Writer’s Residency. His writing can be found in the Harvard Review, The Common, the Paris Review Daily, Salon.com, Lit Hub, The New Republic, Kinfolk Magazine, CrazyHorse, and other publications.

The West Tisbury Library is located at 1042 State Road.
