Peter Temple will retire as executive director of the Martha’s Vineyard Nonprofit Collaborative at the end of the year, the organization announced.

Mr. Temple has led the nonprofit, formerly named the Martha’s Vineyard Donors Collaborative, for the past 13 years.

“The MVNC board thanks Peter for his enormous value to both the nonprofit community and to Martha’s Vineyard,” board chairman Gerald Jones said in a statement. “His legacy of helping people and organizations ‘do good and well’ will be long lasting.”

A longtime resident of Aquinnah, Mr. Temple is well known in the Island community where he has served in many roles. He served on and led the Aquinnah planning board for more than 20 years, stepping down last spring, and helped launch the healthy aging task force, among many other things.

Mr. Temple has taken a job in the private sector and will continue to live in Aquinnah, Mr. Jones said.

He also said the collaborative will begin a search for a new executive director.
