The sun is shining but the temperature is cold. We cannot complain as we have had some pretty warm weather so far. Also watching the weather it is supposed to warm up again.

Happy birthday to all who celebrated their day this past week. Big balloons go out to William Thornton who celebrated Jan. 18, Clarissa Pinto, Jan. 19, Kayo Deoliveria, Jan. 20, Nathan Carletti, Rita Hurley, and Addison Shemit, Jan. 22, and to Autumn Donnelly, who celebrated Jan. 23.

I love to write about island kids who have worked hard and have accomplished some great things. For the next couple of weeks I am going to write about two young adults who have worked hard to get to their goals.

Liam Smith, son of Alison and Tom Smith, has been attending the U.S. Air Force Academy. This is his senior year and this week he found out what his “branch” or job assignment will be. His choice of what he’d like to do in the Air Force was granted: He will train to be a Remote Piloted Aircraft (RPA) pilot. He is very happy with his choice, as are his parents. In the weeks ahead, he will be given his training site assignment upon graduation. Congratulations Liam, and to Tom and Alison. We watched him grow into a fine young man, and we will also thank him for serving our country.

Have a great week and keep the home candles burning.
