Minor motor vehicle accidents related to drunken driving and deer occupied West Tisbury police over the weekend.

Three people were transported to the Martha’s Vineyard Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries following a two-car collision in West Tisbury Friday afternoon.

The accident occurred on the Edgartown-West Tisbury Road at about 5:20 p.m. Friday in the Deep Bottom neighborhood. The two vehicles involved were a 2008 Jeep Wrangler and a 2001 Subaru.

The driver of the Jeep was issued a citation for operating under the influence of alcohol and the driver of the Subaru was cited for following too closely and operating with an expired license, West Tisbury police chief Matt Mincone said.

“Both vehicles were traveling up-Island, as the Jeep was preparing to turn left into Pond Road East, it was struck by the Subaru,” the chief said in a statement.

Both operators and an adult passenger in the Subaru were transported to the hospital for evaluation and both vehicles were towed from the scene.

West Tisbury police also responded to the scene of a vehicle that struck a deer on the Road to Great Neck. The driver was not injured and was able to drive his vehicle from the scene. The officer on duty wasn’t able to locate the deer, according the police statement.

In Chilmark, the fire department responded to the second chimney fire in two weekends. No significant damage was reported, police chief Jonathan Klaren confirmed.

Chief Klaren said chimney fires are rare, but most occur during the early onset of winter. He urged town residents to clean their chimneys, especially if they haven’t been used since the previous season.

Police in Edgartown, Tisbury and Aquinnah all reported weekends without major incidents.
