The website says “No Weenies” but it also declares the course a flat one and pretty, sort of a wander through the beauty of Martha’s Vineyard in deep winter. And hey, you’ll be keeping warm too, running those 20 miles around town.

Yes, it’s time once again for the Vineyard’s 20-mile running race, guaranteed to put a spring or cramp in your step this Saturday. But it’s deep February on the Island and so there is nothing else to do anyway. Plus it’s great preparation for the Boston Marathon, which looms just down the road in April.

The course starts at Vineyard Haven harbor, strolls past the Gingerbread Cottages of Oak Bluffs, then heads out toward Edgartown, spends a long time in the state forest and finishes at the Oak Bluffs Elementary School.

There is also a partner run, for those who prefer 10-mile bite-sized runs.

Or simply watch and cheer from the sidelines, which is its own form of exercise and community camaraderie. Either case, it’s time to get out doors and hit the streets.

The race begins at 11 a.m. For more information, visit mv20miler.com.
