The Island’s first hazardous waste collection of 2020 is taking place as planned this Saturday, according to an update on the Martha’s Vineyard Refuse Disposal and Resource Recovery District website.

To limit possible virus transmission, all waste containers must be in the rearmost part of the vehicle and not in back seats, according to the refuse district. Containers will not be returned to customers, who must remain in their vehicles during the collection.

Collection hours are 9 a.m. to noon May 2. For details on what materials are accepted, visit mvrefusedistrict.com/hazardous-waste-marthas-vineyard.html. Two more hazardous waste collection days are scheduled for 2020, on July 18 and Oct. 17.
