Tisbury’s annual hydrant flushing begins Monday, according to an announcement on the town website.

Tisbury Water Works will flush the hydrants between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. and expects the job to take five days, according to the announcement.

Customers may notice a severe drop in pressure while the hydrants are flowing, but should not lose pressure completely.

Some water discoloration is possible, the announcement advises: “If this occurs you should wait until we are out of your area and then run the cold water from the faucet nearest to the water meter for several minutes and it should clear up,”

As a precaution, customers are urged to check their water for discoloration prior to washing laundry. The Tisbury Water Works office can recommend cleaning instructions if laundry is stained by discolored water.
