Confirmed cases of coronavirus stayed at 23 Wednesday on the Vineyard, and a lone patient who had been hospitalized with Covid-19 was discharged and home in stable condition.
The discharge was confirmed by hospital spokesman Katrina Delgadillo.
As of Wednesday the hospital had done 525 tests, with 23 positives, 498 negatives and four pending.
On Tuesday one new case had been reported by the Island boards of health in their afternoon report, an uptick from 22 to 23.
On Wednesday the hospital updated its numbers to include that case, a female in her 40s. Confirmed cases to date on the Vineyard include 12 women and 11 men.
And while no new cases were reported Wednesday on the Island, statewide confirmed cases continued trending at the top of what public health officials say they hope is a plateau. There were 1,754 new cases and 208 new deaths. There are a total of 72,025 confirmed cases in the commonwealth, with 4,420 deaths from the disease.
A statewide stay-at-home order is in effect until May 18, and face coverings are now required in public places per an order from Gov. Charlie Baker. The face covering requirement took effect Wednesday.
Speaking at a swearing-in ceremony for state police recruits at Gillette Stadium Wednesday, Governor Baker cautioned that any reopening would come only after what he termed a “sustained downward trend” in positive case numbers.
“We’re still very much in this fight with COVID-19,” Mr. Baker said, according to WGBH news.
Meanwhile, testing has expanded both statewide and on Martha’s Vineyard, where the hospital has a tented drive-through outdoor testing facility set up at its Oak Bluffs campus. Testing is only done by prior appointment and with a physician’s recommendation.
Anyone who is ill with Covid-19 symptoms is asked to call their primary care doctor. People who have no doctor can call the hospital Covid-19 hotline at 508-684-4500. The hours are Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
