A West Tisbury man was flown off-Island for treatment Sunday after he was injured in a motorcycle accident off North Road, Chilmark police said.
According to police, the incident took place at around at about 2 p.m. Sunday when the 32-year-old man was traveling down-Island on North Road on his 2019 Kawasaki motorcycle. A 2019 Nissan Leaf, operated by a 62-year old woman from Chilmark, emerged from a private driveway onto North Road, taking a left turn toward Menemsha, according to the police report.
“The operator of the motorcycle . . . was unable to avoid a collision with the Nissan . . . and struck the driver’s door,” the police report said in part.
The motorcycle operator sustained a serious leg injury and was transported by EMS to the Martha’s Vineyard Hospital for medical evacuation, the report said, and was later flown off Island for treatment The operator of the Nissan was uninjured and cited for failure to yield right of way, according to the report.
Police have not released the names of either party involved in the incident.
