The 90-year-old Tisbury School building has a skeleton of steel, town officials learned this week.

“The structural steel carries all the way from the roof to the foundations, which is going to make renovations much easier and less costly,” selectman James Rogers said Tuesday during the board’s weekly public teleconference.

“For a building of that age to have been done the way it was done was kind of remarkable,” said Mr. Rogers, who serves on the building committee for the school.

Bricks from the 1929 building also appear to be in good condition, with a second round of testing coming up to make sure, he said.

Tappé Architects, which is developing design concepts for the school renovation, reported the discoveries to the school building committee Monday. The committee is posting all its meetings and the architects’ presentations online at https://tisbury-school-project.com/, Mr. Rogers said.

“Everything is there for everyone to look at. We want this to be as open to everybody as possible,” he said.

Architects are expected to provide initial cost estimates later this month, school building committee chairman Rachel Orr told the Gazette earlier on Tuesday. The committee’s next meeting is June 22 at 5 p.m.

Among other business Tuesday, selectmen heard from town moderator Deborah Medders that the tent for Saturday’s annual town meeting was going up Wednesday on the Tisbury School playground.

Electricity, a sound system and portable restrooms will be installed and chairs will be spaced six feet apart, Ms. Medders said, with even family members required to maintain social distancing. Sanitizer will be available for shared microphones and printed materials will be kept to a minimum, she said.

Town meeting begins at 1 p.m. Saturday. “We will be encouraging people to bring liquids to stay hydrated, and also snacks,” Ms. Medders said.

At the request of event producer Adam Epstein, selectmen agreed to set July 16 through July 18, 2021 for the next Beach Road Weekend music festival.

The event will be called Beach Road Weekend 350, Mr. Epstein said, in honor of Tisbury’s 350th anniversary next year. The town was incorporated in 1671.

Tuesday’s vote was simply to set dates for the festival, which made its debut in 2019 and was cancelled for this year because of the pandemic. Mr. Epstein still must secure town permits, lease Veterans Memorial Park and pass muster with Tisbury public safety officials, who have told selectmen in past meetings that last year’s event went smoothly from their point of view.

At a series of public hearings, selectmen approved the transfer of Bobby B’s beer and wine license to All Things Delicious, which has purchased the 22 Main Street eatery and its adjoining ice cream parlor. But owner Elio Silva saw his application for a common victualler’s license at Vineyard Grocer, his market on State Road, continued to June 16.

Not Your Sugar Mama’s in Tisbury Marketplace will be allowed to transfer its common victualler’s license to reflect the new name of the eatery, Frankie’s, and the Vineyard Harbor Motel’s lodging house application was approved.

A public hearing on regulations for food trucks in Tisbury was continued to June 30.

A hearing on parking regulations will also be on the June 30 agenda, along with rules for allocating wastewater for properties that have shared ownership. A proposal to raise sticker rates and change the hours of operation at the local drop off was also postponed and the hearing will be rescheduled.
