Slip Away Farm is sponsoring two fundraisers this week in support of the Black community and the Black Lives Matter Movement.

The first is another Bakers Against Racism cookie sale on Saturday, August 29. Lily Walter’s brother, Christian, the head baker at the Grey Barn, will once again be making his famous oatmeal chocolate chunk cookies. They are very popular and very delicious, so order early! One hundred per cent of the proceeds will go to the GoFundMe for Jacob Blake.

The second fundraiser is a Slip Away Farm CSA flower share raffle for the 2021 season. Each entry is $5 and you can enter as many times as you like. The raffle ends September 2. One hundred per cent of the proceeds will go to the Northeast Farmers of Color Network. You can purchase cookies and buy tickets for the flower share raffle on the Slip Away farm website. Click on the shop pulldown. Your support is needed and appreciated! Please spread the word.

The second annual Chappaquiddick Point to Point Road Race is on for Sunday, August 30. Beware that there will be runners going in opposite directions on both sides of the road throughout the morning.

A few changes have been made to address Covid-19 issues. To eliminate the need for taxis to shuttle runners to Wasque, the race will commence at Chappy Point, go for two-and-a-half miles and then loop back to Chappy Point. It’s still Point to Point, but it’s the same point. The turnaround location is about 150 yards beyond the Dike Road intersection at the Pimpneymouse Farm entrance.

As of Tuesday, 221 runners had signed up. Anybody who might be interested in running can still sign up for one of the 29 spots remaining by Googling Chappy Point to Point Race. That will take you to the race signup site.

Bib pick up is Saturday, from 4 to 5 p.m., at Memorial Wharf. Anybody with a bib is entitled to 10 per cent off on Saturday evening at Town Bar and Grill on Upper Main Street. Bib pick up is also available Sunday morning at Chappy Point.

The race will begin as a rolling start with groups of 25 runners per 15-minute time slot commencing at 7:30 a.m. The last group will set out at 9:30 a.m. Official Chappy Point to Point sweatshirts are available at Soft as a Grape on Dock street in Edgartown. You can follow race developments on Instagram @chappypt2pt. Thank you to the Edgartown Highway Department. I assume it’s no coincidence that Chappaquiddick Road received a thorough sweeping on Tuesday.
