Arthur Doubleday organized another standout at Five Corners last weekend. This was to seek justice for Breonya Taylor and the decision made last week on her case. This country is being torn apart. Somethings are so obvious and being ignored. I would cry if I still could.

In more pleasant news, the school bus has returned to the neighborhood. The young students are properly masked and distanced, the bus seems to come later in the morning, return earlier, and carry fewer but I know there are various machinations of remote learning and how many physical students in class days. I do not envy the school staff, the teachers, the parents and guardians one bit in these trying times. They all deserve medals. And raises. And paid vacations when this situation is over.

One of brightest, perkiest, and most beautiful high school graduates, Ashley McCarthy, made it back to the Island for a whirlwind overnight last weekend. I remember this delightful girl cheerleading for our high school football team. She is raising her own team now in Barnstable just across the sound. Twins Eric and Andrew are 14 and keep her going. Daughter Kylee is 12 and a skater. Ashley’s mom is Rob’n Mussell. I can’t think of a better grandma for a kid to have on Island. The twins stayed home with friends. Ashley and Kylee caught up with cousin Brittany and Rob’n. A nice lunch at the Coop de Ville in Oak Bluffs, some volunteer time, then, bang! Begin packing to return on Sunday. I hope the visits will be more regular now.

Such sad news about the upcoming closing of Educomp. Another business, victim to the virus and the internet. I so enjoyed using that store! Forty years. I remember all the other offices and businesses in that beautiful building. The business and its staffers will be greatly missed.

John Doble, our favorite photographer from Bourne, has posted some pictures so seasonal and calling to my heart from when I moved here. The cranberry bogs ready for harvest. What a fabulous color. And one of my favorite fruits. John’s focus is usually the Cape Cod Canal and its bridges. He has been expanding to more animals and birds of the region. But, oh! The color of the cranberries.

Get well wishes go out to Pam Alley for her broken rib. Quick recovery please to Karen Gerlach getting over hip replacement.

Happy 41st anniversary to Betty Burton and John Sundman who celebrated last Sunday. Bill and Cathy Burdick marked 29 years of wedded bliss on Sept. 28.

May I be sentenced to miss my boat next trip off-Island for neglecting to inform you of Peter Sawyer’s birthday on Sept. 20 and Joalser Nascimento’s birthday on Sept. 27. Parabens.

The birthday bandwagon pulled along Joan Walsh on Sept. 26. And on Sept. 28 Ednaldo Feirrere, Maggie Shreve, and Rosemary Terrasse Lauria took the cake. Many happy returns.
