The board of directors of MVYRADIO, the non-profit organization behind the Island’s long-running radio station WMVY 88.7FM, announced this week that fundraising for their new studio and offices in Vineyard Haven is now 40 per cent completed.

Dubbed “Campaign For Our New Island Home,” the fundraising effort began quietly in 2019 and now seeks community support to finish the job of converting a former medical building on State Road into a modern radio facility, complete with broadcast studios and offices.

"We’re ready to shift gears to a public phase,” MVYRADIO board chair Kathleen Teehan said in a satement. “Now that our directors have made their own personal donations, they are ready to reach out to the community to support this project." Details on the campaign are posted at mvyradio.org/island-home.

According to the announcement, the new building is anticipated to be operational by February, with an official opening expected later next spring.

WMVY has been broadcasting from Martha’s Vineyard since 1983 and streaming worldwide since 1999. Originally a commercial enterprise, the station converted to an independent, Massachusetts based 501(c)(3) non-profit in 2013.
