A rescue team from Coast Guard Air Station Cape Cod in Buzzards Bay medevaced a fisherman from a vessel 60 miles southeast of Martha’s Vineyard Friday evening.
According to a press release from the Coast Guard first district, watchstanders received a call at 6 p.m. from the crew of the commercial fishing vessel Persistence saying one of their fellow crew members was displaying stroke-like symptoms and needed medical assistance.
An MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter was deployed from the station in Buzzards Bay and successfully hoisted the 50-year-old fishermen from Persistence to the helicopter at 7:30 p.m. The injured fisherman was transported to Providence Hospital for care, the report says.
Followup information was not immediately available from the Coast Guard Monday.
