Edgartown has shifted its town election to May 25 so that it follows the annual town meeting, after a rule change from Gov. Charlie Baker last week allowed the switch.
The town was previously scheduled to hold its annual town election on April 15 and a special election later after the May 22 town meeting to vote on a Propostion two-and-a-half override.
While the governor had allowed town meetings to be postponed, with towns hoping for better weather and a higher vaccination rate, he had not made a similar accommodation for town elections.
But that changed last week when Gov. Baker altered the rule.
Edgartown will now hold its regular town election and special election on May 25, after a vote from selectmen authorized the change. There are no contested races in town.
The annual town meeting warrant includes a $2 million article to fund a long-planned renovation of Memorial Wharf. The measure requires a vote at the ballot box.
