The name is changing, but the ownership remains the same for the Vineyard's only funeral home, formerly known as Chapman, Cole & Gleason. This week, the Chapman family announced it is changing the name of all its funeral homes to Chapman Funerals & Cremations.

"The change is being made for simplicity, communication, and most importantly to align each of the brands with the other locations owned by the same local Chapman family," the company wrote. "Beginning this week, the Chapman banner will unite Morris, O’Connor & Blute Funeral Homes of Yarmouth and Harwich; John Lawrence Funeral Home of Marstons Mills and Nantucket; Prophett-Chapman Cole & Gleason Funeral Homes & Cremation Services of Bridgewater and East Bridgewater; and Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Homes of Wareham, Falmouth, Mashpee, and Martha’s Vineyard. The name change is not part of any sale or change in the management or staff of any of the funeral homes."

The company is now in its fifth generation of Chapman owners: brothers Bill and Mark Chapman and cousin David Chapman.

“After decades of change, funeral home names can get a little out of control," Bill Chapman said in a statement.“Especially in this digital age, clarity is important.”
