Oh, the weather has been ideal for the past week, with a slight shower on Tuesday evening. Other than that, sunshine every day, temperature reaching the 70s and cool calm breezes. Lilacs are in full bloom as are the rosa rugosa.
Friday evening was a sentimental time for the Vineyard Gazette alumni as they attended a Zoom reunion celebrating the 175th anniversary of the printing of the Gazette. Mark Alan Lovewell is the longest person employed as he has been in the newsroom since 1979.
The Vineyard Transit Authority had a ribbon cutting ceremony last Friday for the new solar canopies that will charge the twelve new electric buses. It was encouraging to see so many supporters from the state and local entities.
I met up with Annette Anthony by accident a week ago. Plans are in place for the Chilmark Flea Market to open for the season on June 30 and run through the Labor Day weekend.
Congratulations to my oldest grandchild, Christina Marie Orfe, who received her Master’s degree in Education with a dual degree in autism and intellectual disabilities from the University of Nevada at Las Vegas. Ceremonies were held on May 13, after a delay due to the pandemic. She was a straight A student with a GPA of 3.97, raising three children, as well as being a classroom teacher.
Congratulations to my youngest grandchild, Noah James Manning, who is on the Head of School list for Falmouth Academy for the second semester of this school year. Noah is also the president of his freshman year class of 2024.
Congratulations to my youngest great grandchild, Kylee Ann Darcy, on her first Kaleidoscope dance recital held on Saturday at Union Chapel under the direction of their ballet teacher Lucia Dillon. Kylee and her dance troupe, including Clementine, Olive, Elke, Charlotte, Frances, Eilish and Leona, performed to the music entitled Cherry Blossom Princess.

Welcome to Barry Christopher Laursen, son of Timothy and Ann Laursen, who was born on May 7 at Martha’s Vineyard Hospital. He was welcomed home by his brother, two-year-old Svend, and by his grandparents Peter and Marie Laursen.
Corinna Majno and her husband Ken Kaufman have arrived from California. Corinna has her seaweed art studio open for the season on Mariner’s View Way.
