Sail MV will present the Walter Cronkite Award to photographer Alison Shaw at its annual summer fundraiser, the Seafood Buffet and Auction, the organization announced. The event will be held by Zoom on July 8.

The Cronkite award has been presented each year since 2010 to honor an individual who has advanced the appreciation of maritime culture on Martha’s Vineyard. Ms. Shaw has been photographing the Vineyard and its waters since the 1970s and runs her own gallery in Oak Bluffs with her wife Sue Dawson. She will be the ninth recipient of the Cronkite Award.

Previous recipients of the award were Ray Ellis, Matthew Stackpole, Capt. Robert S. Douglas, Ross Gannon and Nat Benjamin, S. Bailey Norton, Jr., Nathaniel Philbrick, Steven Ewing, and Brock and Hope Callen.

In addition to the award presentation, the program will feature video stories of Sail MV alumnae and important maritime partners here on the Island. There will also be an auction of items are donated by local businesses and boat owners.
