Long-awaited summer days have arrived with pleasant temperatures in the 70s and 80s. Very little rain but significant fog.

Jade and Maya Araujo, twin daughters of Todd and Jaleen Araujo, have arrived from their freshman year at college to spend the summer with grandparents Michael and Eleanor Hebert and Joseph Araujo. Jade has been a student at Stanford while Maya attends UCLA. They are looking forward to summer jobs at the Cliffs area.

Howard and Sandra Klebanoff arrived on Sunday with Bella, their special furry companion. They are looking forward to spending the summer overlooking Vineyard Sound and joining their daughter Amy Macey, her husband Jon and grandson Zac for family dinners.

Jon and Amy Macey enjoyed a visit from her sister Marcie and sister in law Julie Rosen as they travel back and forth from New York to spend as much time as possible with the Maceys and Klebanoffs.

Barry and Dottie Sullivan arrived a month ago for their summer sojourn and to enjoy beautiful Aquinnah. On June 27, they observed their 40th anniversary. They honeymooned on the Vineyard, which started their love for the Island.

Sincerest condolences to the family and friends of Reverend David Denison Cockcroft, who passed away on June 3 in Ossining, N.Y. following a long illness. He was a graduate of Princeton University and Union Theological Seminary. He was ordained into the Presbyterian ministry in 1956. For decades, Reverend Cockcroft spent every August at the Steinberg home in Aquinnah and he always celebrated his birthday here. He loved the sea and sky, the birds and the good friends he had on the Island, especially as a communicant of Community Baptist Church. One would find him having breakfast at the Aquinnah Shop Restaurant. He will be missed by his many Island friends. Services will be held in New York during July.

Sincerest condolences to the family and friends of Lisa Kantrowitz, M.D., daughter of Jean and the late Adrian Kantrowitz, M.D.. Lisa, a dedicated radiologist, passed away after a prolonged illness. The Vineyard was her cherished home for almost all the summers of her life and her closest and best friends were on the Island. Lisa and her family maintained properties in Aquinnah for many years, moving to a new summer home in Chilmark seven years ago. She is survived by her husband Elliott Fankuchen, M.D. and their children Samuel, Alexander, Peter and Olivia Fankuchen, M.D, who enjoyed all their summers at Lobsterville. She is also survived by her mother, Jean Kantrowitz. As per her final wishes, the immediate family saw their beloved Lisa off at Abel’s Hill Cemetery. A remembrance gathering of her Vineyard and east coast family and friends is planned for sometime around her August 27th birthday. Her family is aiming for Saturday, August 28th, with the time and location to be determined. A separate New York gathering might possibly be held.

Sincerest condolences to the family and friends of Jerry Wiener, who passed away in New Jersey on June 15. He was the longtime building inspector for the the town of Aquinnah and also served in that capacity for the towns of Oak Bluffs and Chilmark. He served as chairman of the Aquinnah board of health. Jerry enjoyed working in his blacksmith studio, flying his airplane and sharing Saturday luncheons with his fellow building inspector Lenny Jason Jr. Jerry is survived by his wife Carolyn, his children Corey, Leanne and Jesse and their families.

Karen MacPhail on the 23rd, Eddie Fantasia and Judith Lana Peterson on the 26th, and Kathie Carroll, Anna Cotton and Max O’Brien on the 27th. Beth Mayhew parties on the 28th. Marilyn Maynard observes her special day on June 29. Suzanne Crowley parties on the 30th.

Jane Keenan celebrates on July 1, along with Kenny Ivory. U.S. Coast Guard Senior Chief Justin Longval will observe his special day on July 2, as will Jessica Bradlee.
