Tropical storm Elsa did not stay around too long, touching the Vineyard rather gently and not leaving much damage. Not very good beach days this past week. But just like Elsa, this too shall pass.

Sincerest condolences to the family and friends of Otis P. Jeffers Jr., who died at the Brockton veterans home on July 8. He was the son of the late Otis P. Sr. and Thelma Randolph. He spent his youth hunting and fishing around Aquinnah with his brother Ronald and with their friends when they visited from Mashpee. Otis was predeceased by his wife Barbara DeBettencourt. He was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps and enjoyed a three-decade career and unblemished driving record with United Parcel Service. He worked for the Vineyard Transit Authority during his retirement. He was an Aquinnah tribal elder and would often advise those younger. In retirement, he and Bobbi moved to Hollywood, Florida, where they enjoyed entertaining family and friends visiting from the Vineyard. He will be missed by many for his sense of humor. Services will be held at a later date.
