It was recently announced that Arthur, the world’s friendliest Aardvark, would be retiring from television after a 25-year run. The world may have reacted with sadness, but here on the Vineyard, there are no worries. Marc Brown, the creator of Arthur and seasonal Vineyarder, will be stopping by the Mariposa Museum in Oak Bluffs on Friday, August 6 to cheer on kids as they make art with sculptor Kevin Blythe Sampson.
Mr. Sampson appeared recently in the Arthur episode George Scraps His Sculpture. That episode was cartoon; this is real life.
Mr. Sampson works with found objects and he will show kids how to make magic wands, with some help from Mr. Brown, whose new book, Believe in Yourself: What We Learned from Arthur, comes out in January. There will also be an exhibit of his Arthur artwork opening at the Fenimore Museum in Cooperstown, N.H. next weekend.
The Mariposa Museum is located at 57 Circuit avenue, Oak Bluffs.
